Death In The Morning

The moon and the stars have vanished away

Taking their dark-shrouded fantasies

Burning passion through to soft, warm alert

Pretty girl's smile , transport of delight

Barechest bravado and thrust of the chin

Two groups square off in eldritch ritual

Sliding back through evolution's mists

Flash of steel and the searing pain

White shirt yields to blood's escape

Like a red rose lying in the snow

Death in the morning comes too soon

Reluctantly he has to go

Sun is rising but light is dying

Everyone loses in a zero-sum game

Smell of chrome in a slick of fear

Last hours surrounded by tearful faces

Don't wanna leave with so little done

Tears of regret and groans of sorrow

Never touch her lips, never know her name

Won't be no loving bright tomorrow
